Behind the scenes: 2015 Melbourne Cup fashion shoot

There’s a lot that goes into a fashion shoot: plenty of expertise and months of planning culminate in a day so fast and frenzied that ‘whirlwind-esque’ is a fairly accurate description. Typically the team consists of a photographer, art director, stylist, hair and makeup artists, models and assistants. When it’s a major project – like our recent fashion shoot for the Victoria Racing Club’s Melbourne Cup Carnival 2015 magazine – the editor, deputy, publisher and client come along too.

On this particular shoot, however, there were a couple of extra attendees – a second photographer and videographer from our stable of talent, tasked with capturing the glamour and excitement behind the scenes.

Fashion – from catwalk trends and haute couture to fashion shoots and ‘glossies’ – embodies the same values of sophistication and excitement as does the VRC and horseracing in general.

The VRC has a strong social media presence and is prolific across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Behind-the-scenes photographs and video clips are a perfect way to build anticipation for its biggest event on the racing calendar, the Melbourne Cup Carnival, not to mention the magazine’s on-sale date.

Over the next few months the VRC will release behind-the-scenes content captured at the fashion shoot via its social media channels. Melbourne’s fashion darlings are already planning their outfits and the debate over the stylist’s racewear and millinery picks for the 2015 shoot is bound to be lively, thanks to the fantastic footage shot by our behind-the-scenes team.
